BA Bands eNews
October 29, 2017 -Directors Notes-
OBA State Champions! Congratulations to the 2017 OBA State Marching Band Champions, the Pride of Broken Arrow!! The Pride competed in the OBA Championships this past weekend and earned awards including Outstanding Music Performance, Outstanding Visual Performance, and Outstanding General Effect in the preliminary contest and swept all awards in the finals competition including Outstanding Musical Performance, Outstanding Visual Performance and Outstanding General Effect. This marks the 25th OBA State Championship for the Pride and their 16th Consecutive title. What an amazing accomplishment for these outstanding student performers, staff and parent volunteers!
A Special Note of Gratitute Have you ever stepped back to really watch how the Pride organization operates like a MACHINE at any event? While the students are, without question, the center of all activity and focus (as well they should be!), the volunteer operations that go on “behind the scenes†is nothing short of spectacular! Just take a moment to think about all of the gears that must operate, and operate efficiently to make our BA Band Program function so well.
From each of our organizational teams, you have no doubt seen the passion that each of these volunteers exhibit as they work for the good of our students! The list of volunteer positions is extremely extensive and each are vital to the continued support of our organization. I marvel at the willingness to SERVE of each of our volunteers. From the chaperones, to the uniform and ‘washer parents’, to the concession workers and the fundraising workers, to the Special Events team, to the Marketing and Communications teams, to the fundraising team that aids our mission to help all students participate in the Pride and raise funds to get us to the BOA Grand National Championship, to the Operations team that spend countless hours getting us moved from one place to the next, to the Functions efforts of the all the chaperones that serve and help feed our kids there is no end to the list of recognition the we should all honor and show our appreciation to these selfless volunteers! I can’t begin to thank the amazing volunteers for their commitment to our students and to our band program. AND, these volunteers seem to be ALWAYS having fun while they’re working! Well Done!! Please join me in applauding their efforts this season!

Pride Send Off Dress Rehearsal for Grand Nationals The Pride Send Off Dress Rehearsal will be on Monday, November 6. This will be an excellent opportunity to see the final version of the Pride’s show “Age of Discovery: The Return to Xexo“ before they depart for the BOA Grand National Championship in Indianapolis, IN. The Pride will, once again, sponsor this event as a benefit to BA Neighbors. Admission fee for the event is a canned food or non-perishable food item. This is an excellent opportunity to give back to our Broken Arrow community. The gates to the Grand Stand seating will open at 8:30pm and the program will begin at approximately 8:45pm. We will once again sponsor this event as a benefit to BA Neighbors. Bring a canned food item and come out and watch the Pride. Invite your friends! At the conclusion of the event the Pride members will need to load the trucks for equipment to be ready for their EXPO Indoor rehearsal the following day.
BOA Grand Nationals Preliminary Performance Time Confirmed The Grand National Preliminary Schedule has now been released to the competing Bands and their supporters. The Broken Arrow Pride will perform in the BOA Grand National Preliminary contest on THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 9 AT 3:15PM EST.

At 9:30, buses will pick up the Freshman Academy students at their campus and will then meet up at the High School where we will then depart as one full bus convoy to the Expo Square. The Pride will have an extended rehearsal (indoors) until 6:30pm. Lunch will be provided upon the students' arrival at Expo Square. At the conclusion of the rehearsal, the Pride will load up the buses and return to to BAHS. We expect to arrive at BAHS by 7:30pm. This will be an amazing opportunity for the Pride to put the finishing touches on their show in a controlled “dome†environment. As is previous years, this entire event is a closed rehearsal.

Grants: Did you know that some companies pay volunteer grants for their
employees who volunteer hours for organizations. Is your company one of
those? Do you work for Walmart, DirecTV, IBM or State Farm? Those are 4
companies of the many who offer volunteer grants. Check with your HR
department! This is a great opportunity that allows your hard work to
benefit BA Bands! Most of these grants are around $500. Turn your
volunteer hours into money!
If
you have a contact at a company that might be interested in sponsoring
the Pride, let us know ! We have several levels of sponsorship, we

PANDA EXPRESS DINE OUT NIGHT HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED FOR TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 14!! We apologize for the Panda Express issue this past Tuesday. But they have graciously rescheduled Dine Out Night for us. Panda Express is at 1314 E. Hillside Dr from 3-10PM. 20% of sales will go to band program. Participants must present a FLYER (paper or on phone) on the day of our fundraiser to get credit for the
band. We will have the new flyer soon and will post it on social media.
You can show the flyer electronically on your phone! Spread the word!
BEEF JERKY STICKS - Jerky sticks are available by pre-order and pre-purchase through the band only; the turnaround time to get them is quick - usually about a week once we place an order (orders will be placed at the beginning of each month; the next order will be placed after October 30 band parent meeting). We can also email you an order form if you need one or CLICK HERE to print one. Please contact Debbie at BABandFundraising@gmail.com with questions. This is the ONLY fundraiser we offer that you will pay ONLY the cost upfront, not the profit as well, due to the cost of the sticks. You will still be responsible for turning the profit into the band office for this fundraiser.
AMISH BAKERY FUNDRAISER PICKUP - We still have orders that have not been picked up. Please come to the parent meeting on Monday evening, October 30, to get your order if you ordered. Remember, your Pride member can also stop by after practice ends on Monday to pick up the order as well.
CHOCOLATE FUNDRAISER - We have the $1 variety bar boxes, $1 caramel bar boxes, and $2 almond boxes available. Also, important to remember - if you turn in money from selling chocolate, please mark it as a band payment so that it gets posted to Charms that way; you will have already paid the profit upfront. CLICK HERE for the chocolate fundraiser guidelines.
WREATH FUNDRAISER - This fundraiser began last week. Orders MUST be turned in on or before Thursday, November 2 (this week!). This fundraiser has live wreaths, live sprays, and live centerpieces. Holiday gifts are an option with this fundraiser. These will arrive the beginning of December. Order forms will be at the meeting Monday and extra forms left in the band office reception area afterward. Please read the TWO fundraising guidelines sheets included in each packet carefully; there are different prices and ordering instructions dependent on whether the item is being delivered by you locally or being shipped to someone somewhere.
SCENTED GARDEN CANDLE FUNDRAISER - This fundraiser began last week and goes through Thursday, November 2 (this week!). These make great Christmas gifts! Order forms will be at the meeting Monday and extra forms left in the band office reception area afterward.
*****Due to the size of the catalogs for both the wreaths and the candles, it will be best to pick up an actual order form when they are passed out this week.*****
IMPORTANT NOTES REGARDING FUNDRAISERS!!! - You MUST include your contact information (email address and phone number) on ALL fundraiser order forms before turning them in (even if the form doesn't ask for that info).
For more information on ANY of the fundraisers listed above, please contact Debbie Gowriluk at BABandFundraising@gmail.com.
