Directors Notes



European Concert Tour Meeting - Feb 21
Join us on February 21 for an informational meeting about the upcoming BA Bands European Concert Tour. Many details will be shared at this meeting such as: Trip Overview, Travel Dates, Concert Performances, Travel Pricing, Trip Sign Up Procedure, Passport Info, etc. This travel opportunity is available to ALL interested band members that will are currently in grades 9-11 (10-12 for the 2017-2018 school year). Bring your questions and learn many details about the exciting things in store for this amazing trip to Austria and Germany in June 2018.
All members of the 2017-2018 Broken Arrow HS Wind Bands are eligible and will have the opportunity to travel on this OPTIONAL significant cultural experience. An informational meeting will be held on February 21 in the HS band room to share trip details, travel dates, pricing and answer any questions. …Pending all final approvals from the Broken Arrow BOE.


Championship Ring Orders and Sizings - Last Chance to order on Tuesday before Meeting
We have added one additional Ring Sizing and Order date.  THIS Tuesday prior to the band parent meeting from 6:00-7:00 the Jostens reps will be at the HS.  Due to popular demand, we will once again offer Pride Championship Rings to commemorate the Age of Discovery season. This is an optional item that Pride members may choose to purchase. Jostens will size member, take orders and receive all payments. All payments will be made directly through Jostens.  See the attached form for pricing and artwork for the rings by CLICKING HERE!


Pride Banquet Date April 28
Save the Date! The Pride Banquet will be on Friday, April 28th at the Tulsa Renaissance Hotel. Ticket Information will be available soon. This will be an amazing event to celebrate all of the successes of the season.


Sale of Old Pride Uniforms
The sale of the old Pride uniforms has been approved. The old Pride uniforms are now offered for sale to current and former students at a cost of $75.00 per uniform. If you are interested in purchasing your uniform bring payment to the band office. Unfortunately, no student account funds may be utilized for this transaction and no partial uniforms will be sold. Specific uniform part #’s can’t be guaranteed. All uniforms must be paid for by Feb 27.


Uniform Check-In for Old Pride Uniforms
All Pride uniforms must be checked in on Monday, Feb 27 after school.  You have the option to purchase and keep your uniform. 


Age of Discovery Helmets for Sale
Helmets are available for sale for $20. Color Guard will have first opportunity to purchase their helmet until January 26. All other Pride members will have an opportunity to purchase the helmet beginning on January 27. The Helmet sale will end on February 10.


Next Band Parent Meeting - February 21
The next meeting of the Band Parent Association will be on Tuesday, February 21st at 7:00pm. This meeting will review and recap the 2016 Pride of Broken Arrow Rose Parade trip to California, and the Percussion at the Midwest Clinic AND provide detailed info about the 2018 European Concert Tour!

As a reminder, all rehearsals are mandatory for membership; each student is allowed two (2) unexcused absences before the risk of a grade reduction. Absences due to work-related issues are unexcused, and absences due to illness are only excused with a doctor's note. All absences must be communicated to Mr. Wiencken at awiencken@baschools.org.

Fees
The first student payment of $400 is now past due; if you haven't made your first payment, please do so ASAP.  Checks can be made out to "BA Bands" and given to Mrs. Good or the payment dropbox in the Orchestra Hallway.  Broken Arrow Indoor Percussion fees for this 2017 season are $1600*. Payment due dates for fees are due on the following dates:
February 15th- $400
March 15th- $400
April 15th- $400
May 15th- $400


Preview Night/Contest Itineraries
Please come out and see Broken Arrow Indoor's Preview Night Rehearsal and Performance THIS FRIDAY, starting at 8:00 PM in Tiger Fieldhouse (Main Gym) at BAHS. BA Indoor will be performing a portion of their 2017 program "WElcoME", in full-uniform at approximately 8:45 PM. Details and itineraries for BA Indoor's upcoming performances at WGPO-Southmoore and WGI Dallas Regional are now available HERE and HERE in addition to the "Contest Itineraries" portion of the brokenarrowpride.com website.


WGI Dallas Regional
Broken Arrow Indoor will be traveling to the WGI Dallas Percussion Regional on Saturday, March 4th at Burleson Centennial High School in Burleson, Texas. Broken Arrow's Prelims performance time is set for 2:29 PM, with the Finals performance time at approximately 9:34 or 9:45 PM. A full, detailed itinerary regarding this contest will be available on eNews the week of February 19th. Tickets can be purchased via email or in person; ticket prices are $14 for Prelims, $17 for Finals, and $23 for a Prelims/Finals Combo. WGI World Championships Hotel and Ticket Information
If you are planning to make the trip to Dayton for the WGI Championships to support Broken Arrow Indoor Percussion, it’s recommended to make hotel accommodations and purchase tickets now, as hotels and finals tickets will sell out! For a comprehensive list of Dayton-Area hotels and prices, please visit http://www.wgi.org/hotels.php. Broken Arrow will be staying at the DoubleTree Suites in Miamisburg. Tickets for World Championships can be bought online, over the phone, or by mail; Prelims and Semi-Finals tickets are general admission and only sold at the door (unless purchased as part of the "VIP" package). World Finals tickets are reserved seating, and can be purchased online or by phone. Ticket information can be found at http://www.wgi.org/contents/Tickets-Perc.html. All World Class events for Broken Arrow Indoor will be held at the University of Dayton Arena.

Are you interested in serving a term for our Band Parent Leadership? Applications are currently being accepted for our band parent officer positions. Complete the attached application and return it to the current BABPA Presidents, Eric and Heidi Cline, no later than 4:00pm on Friday, March 3. Applications may be sent electronically to BABPAPrez@gmail.com OR hand delivered to the BAHS Fine Arts / Band Office.

CHOCOLATE - Chocolate bars and chocolate covered almonds have been ordered once again, and will be available for purchase at the February 21 band parent meeting. Indoor Percussion members can fundraise for current trip accounts, and Pride members can get a head start on fundraising towards next season’s trip accounts.


FLOWER FUNDRAISER!!! - We are so excited for this new fundraiser we will be offering beginning at the February 21 band parent meeting! To help everyone get their yards ready for spring and summer, what could be more appropriate than a flower fundraiser?! Profit margins are great on this one, and the flower delivery will arrive just in time for spring planting season. There is something for everyone with this fundraiser - bedding flowers and hanging baskets, shade flowers and full sun flowers.

Drop off location for each date/time is the parking lot in front of the band hall.

INDOOR PERCUSSION SHOW BUTTONS - Button pictures will be taken this Friday at 4:00. Order forms and payment are due NO LATER THAN Monday, February 27!! NO EXCEPTIONS! The buttons are $5 each. We will have forms at the Pride Store before and after the parent meeting this week. We hope to have these completed before the March 4 Dallas Regional. You can turn in the order with check (made to BAHS Bands) or cash to Lisa Good or put the form and payment into the payment slot near the orchestra room. Email us at bapridestore@gmail.com if you need a form.

VISIT THE PRIDE STORE TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 21! - The Pride Store will be open from 6PM-7PM and also after the parent meeting! We will have many of the usual Pride items for sale as well as pre-order forms for Ornaments and Indoor Percussion Show Buttons.
These pre-ordered items are available for pickup at the Pride Store on Tuesday:

Volunteer Grants: Did you know that some companies pay volunteer grants for their employees who volunteer hours for organizations. Is your company one of those? Do you work for Walmart, DirecTV, IBM or State Farm? Those are 4 companies of the many who offer volunteer grants. Check with your HR department! This is a great opportunity that allows your hard work to benefit BA Bands! Most of these grants are around $500. Turn your volunteer hours into money!

If you have a contact at a company that might be interested in sponsoring the Pride, let us know!
